Storm Warnings

I woke up early this morning to rumblings of thunder off in the distance.
Unable to get back to sleep I headed downstairs and drew back the living room window curtains.

You know, it's interesting, living in this day and age.
So much heartache all around us. One friend was agonizing recently over five people around her who are dying of cancer - and so very young. I remember a statistic, not so long ago, that said everyone would know one person out of five around them dying of cancer. That statistic is surely much higher now.

Crazy weather patterns, thunder and lightning in winter, bigger than ever hailstones in summer, violent storms, hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes in places where they've never been seen before. Floods, stifling heatwaves, massive fires encroaching on cities.

And it's interesting the language being used to describe them:
epic, historic, outrageous, unheard-of, of biblical proportions, record-breaking etc., etc.,

What I saw from my living room window reminded me of those words. I have honestly never seen clouds like this before, and moving at such a rapid pace. It was calm outside, barely a breeze, no rain, no lightning...just those ominous rumbles overhead. Somebody, somewhere, was about to get a major storm. There was severe thunderstorm watch being called for "cottage country" - north-east of the city.

I just heard on the news that there are over 200 flood warnings due to massive rain storms, in the UK today.
Thinking of, and praying for, my UK family and friends.

  1. Woah Kaybee! That's some pretty weird cloud formations and very scary I'd say. Save those photos and even think about sending them to a meteorologist. They have names for some of those types of clouds and I think they are quite rare.

  2. That is quite some sky. We have been having some really bad weather here and there have been some tornadoes filmed, although few have touched down. Most parts of the UK have been flooded, almost every county has had some kind of open air or sport event washed out and it bodes ill for the Olympics. This weekend one of the largest air shows in the country is held near here, with flyers and acrobatic teams from all over the world and they have been fairly lucky, although the cloud is low and the aircraft cannot fly very high without disappearing, the rain has held off well so far.
I am not sure about cancer statistics, but one spouse, one cousin and four friends have died from it and numerous acquaintances. The statistics are changing all the time because as most fatal illnesses have been licked one by one, there are fewer things to die from. This puts cancer and heart problems higher on the list by default. It is a product of medical success.
