EVERY INCHIE MONDAY JULY 30, 2012

This week's Inchie Monday theme is:

Tourist

I know - the 'hoppa' bus does look like it's in the ocean...but in actual fact we do have one here in our city that ends its journey by taking its passengers for trip on the lake! You can take a virtual tour of the Hippo Bus here - it's lots of fun!

And yes, I do still travel on my British passport --  dual citizenship comes in very handy at times!

Keep checking back here - at some point in time, when life slows down a little, I do plan to blog the rest of our time as tourists in Los Angeles. Lots of interesting and sometimes quirky sights!!

If you go here, you can find many more creative interpretations of a 'tourist' inchie!

EVERY INCHIE MONDAY JULY 9, 2012

This week's Inchie theme is:

Mountain

I learned a new little trick this week.

This was my first attempt:

but I thought it looked a little washed out, so I wanted to outline it in black pen. But I was afraid that one wrong stroke would spoil it and I'd have to start all over again - heaven forbid!

So I photocopied it, and outlined the photocopy in black and gave it a little more detail. Now I am not sure which one I like the best!

Storm Warnings

I woke up early this morning to rumblings of thunder off in the distance.
Unable to get back to sleep I headed downstairs and drew back the living room window curtains.

You know, it's interesting, living in this day and age.
So much heartache all around us. One friend was agonizing recently over five people around her who are dying of cancer - and so very young. I remember a statistic, not so long ago, that said everyone would know one person out of five around them dying of cancer. That statistic is surely much higher now.

Crazy weather patterns, thunder and lightning in winter, bigger than ever hailstones in summer, violent storms, hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes in places where they've never been seen before. Floods, stifling heatwaves, massive fires encroaching on cities.

And it's interesting the language being used to describe them:
epic, historic, outrageous, unheard-of, of biblical proportions, record-breaking etc., etc.,

What I saw from my living room window reminded me of those words. I have honestly never seen clouds like this before, and moving at such a rapid pace. It was calm outside, barely a breeze, no rain, no lightning...just those ominous rumbles overhead. Somebody, somewhere, was about to get a major storm. There was severe thunderstorm watch being called for "cottage country" - north-east of the city.

Click on the first photo, so that you can arrow through them all, enlarged:

I just heard on the news that there are over 200 flood warnings due to massive rain storms, in the UK today.
Thinking of, and praying for, my UK family and friends.

EVERY INCHIE MONDAY JULY 2, 2012

This week's topic is 'border.'

My interpretation reminds me of art I used to do in school, where the teacher would mark it, "Too messy" !  Aah well, I tried - then and now!!

You should really go here, to see some much more creative 'borders'!
